Krishna was the 8th child of Vasudeva and Devaki. He was born in the 8th dark night (Krishna Paksha) of Shravan month in a prison cell in Mathura. This day is celebrated as “Krishna Jayanthi” or “Janmashtami”. His birthplace is known as “Krishna Janmabhoomi”.​Krishna is believed to be the eight avatar, or incarnation, of Vishnu.
